What it means
The EBCM/ABS module detects an electrical fault in the LF hydraulic modulator solenoid #1 circuit (open, short-to-ground, short-to-voltage, or out-of-range current). These solenoids open/close valves inside the HCU to build, hold, or release pressure during ABS/ESC events. AA1 Car+1
Symptoms
- ABS light on; traction/ESC may be disabled.
- ABS events may feel abnormal (skips, extended cycles) when commanded.
Common causes
- Open/short in the LF solenoid driver wiring between EBCM and HCU connector.
- Corroded or loose terminals at the modulator.
- Internal HCU/EBCM driver failure. files.spectralcoding.com
Pro diagnostics (high level)
- Command LF solenoid with a bi-directional scan tool; listen/feel for actuation, watch current draw/PID.
- Key off; check solenoid coil resistance at the HCU connector vs. spec (typically a few ohms; consult SI).
- Load-test the circuit for voltage drop while commanding the solenoid.
- If coil/wiring are in spec and command is present, suspect EBCM/HCU per OEM flow. files.spectralcoding.com
Fixes
- Repair harness/terminals; clean and re-pin as needed.
- Replace HCU/EBCM assembly if internal driver/coil fault is confirmed (most are serviced as a unit). files.spectralcoding.com
